Research Compliance

DNA Animal Subjects in Research and Teaching

All research or teaching involving vertebrate animals at Ohio University must be reviewed and approved by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). This includes research or teaching conducted by faculty, staff, or students at Ohio University. Lab Animal Resources (LAR) is charged with the care of all animals used in teaching and research at Ohio University.

Human Subjects Research

All studies by faculty, students or staff that involve human subjects are considered human subjects research by the federal government. This includes everything from clinical trials to surveys, interviews and observation. Any research -- including masters and doctoral projects -- that calls for participation by human subjects must be approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) before the project can begin.

Conflict of Interest

All Ohio University faculty and employees must complete a conflict of interest form before receiving grants from an external funding source. The form, which must be completed annually, helps the university ensure that all research activities are in compliance with federal, state and university policies.

Responsible Conduct in Research

The Office of Research Compliance also monitors responsible conduct in research matters.
